About Aoife
I grew up in unceded Qayqayt territory in the so-called Greater Vancouver Area, connecting with trans, queer, and neurodivergent community across the city from a young age and engaging in liberatory struggle. Having seen a clear lack of trans professionals in mental healthcare and the difficulty many queer and trans people face with finding support that can competently meet our needs, I felt inspired to pursue professional counselling to support our community.
I also grew up with a mother who is a counsellor, specifically for women affected by intimate partner abuse, which has informed my beliefs and helped steer me towards a justice-oriented approach to therapy. I am proud to have learned from my mother and to practice counselling with the conviction that understanding power structures is vital to our health.
I am passionate about fighting against all sorts of stigma and cherish opportunities to provide people a non-judgmental space to talk honestly and comfortably about difficult or taboo subjects. I have personal experience with polyamory and living with ADHD as well as community experience working alongside sex workers, autistic people, and people who use drugs.
I am also a lover of play and creativity. I’m passionate about the arts and have always had a strong interest in games and the positive impacts they can have on our wellbeing. I believe that play and creative expression are vital and I enjoy taking them very seriously in all their unseriousness.
I look forward to meeting you!
